Cleaning an iron’s surface is important to maintain its performance and prolong its lifespan. Asides that, you do not want an iron staining your clothes especially when you have an important occasion to attend. Hence, here are some easy steps to help you get the stain off your iron surface.

Unplug the iron: Safety should be your first priority when cleaning an iron. Unplug the iron and let it cool down completely before cleaning.

Mix a cleaning solution: Mix equal parts of water and white vinegar or baking soda to create a cleaning solution. Alternatively, you can use a commercial iron cleaner.

Apply the solution: Dip a clean cloth into the cleaning solution and gently rub it over the iron’s surface. Focus on the soleplate, which is the bottom of the iron that comes in contact with clothes. Be gentle and avoid using abrasive materials that could scratch the surface.

Clean the steam vents: If the iron has steam vents, use a cotton swab dipped in the cleaning solution to clean them.

Rinse the iron: Once you’ve cleaned the iron’s surface, rinse it with a damp cloth to remove any cleaning solution residue.

Dry the iron: Use a clean, dry cloth to dry the iron’s surface completely before plugging it back in.

It’s important to read the manufacturer’s instructions for specific cleaning instructions and to avoid damaging the iron. Additionally, some irons have a self-cleaning function that can help remove mineral buildup.
