Rachael Kundananji is a prominent figure in women’s football who continues to make waves in the sports world with her exceptional talent.
Born December 3, 2000, in Zambia, Kundananji @rachael_kundananji has rapidly risen to fame, becoming a key player for both her country and club. Her unique football talents led her to the Zambian club Indeni Roses, where she honed her abilities and attracted attention from larger clubs.
Kundananji’s big break came when she joined Kazaktstan’s BIIK Kazygurt in 2019. Her performance there was nothing short of spectacular and she quickly became a top goal scorer in the league.
In 2022, she signed with SD Eibar in the top-tier Spanish League Premiera Iberdrola for the 2021-22 season. She moved on to Madrid CFF in August 2022 and scored a brace against Peal Sociedad in November. In April 2023, she was named Madrid’s player of the Month after scoring a hat-trick against Alhama CF, a goal against Valencia CF, and a brace in the 2-1 upset against FC Barcelona.
In February 2024, Kundananji signed with Bay FC for a women’s world record transfer fee of £625,000, a deal that lasts until 2027. She was the first Zambian to play in an NWSL match and the first to score a goal in NWSL.
On the international stage, Kundananji has been a prominent player for the Zambian national team. She played a key role in Zambia’s historic qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, marking the first time the women’s team had qualified for the event.
Off the field, Kundananji is an inspirational figure for young girls in Zambia and around the world. Recently, she launched the Rachael Kundananji Legacy Foundation, a foundation that “aims to make a lasting impact on young athletes and communities in Southern Africa.”
