The Shona people are a Bantu ethnic group primarily found in Zimbabwe, with smaller populations in Mozambique and Zambia. Their culture is rich and diverse.

The Shona people speak several dialects of the Shona language, with variations in different regions. Shona is a Bantu language and is an essential part of their cultural identity. There are five major Shona dialect which includes Manyika, Karanga, Zezuru, Korekore and Ndau.

Traditionally, many Shona people adhere to a combination of ancestral beliefs and Christianity. Ancestral veneration plays a significant role in their spiritual practices.

The Shona culture places a strong emphasis on family and community. Extended families are common, and they have a collective approach to problem-solving and decision-making. There is a system of identifying clans and sub-clans, which are named after and indicated by insignias, commonly indigenous animals.

The Shona society traditionally had a hierarchical structure with chiefs and sub-chiefs playing important roles. This has evolved over time, especially with changes brought about by colonization.

Part of the Shona culture is the art which is well-known, particularly stone sculpture. Shona artists are renowned for their intricate sculptures that often depict spiritual themes and traditional beliefs.

Traditional Shona music and dance are vibrant and integral to their culture. Instruments like the mbira (thumb piano) and the ngoma drums are used in their music. Usually, the drums vary in size and shape, depending on the type of music they are accompanying.

As for the livelihood of the Shona, this is centered around Agriculture. The Shona are skilled farmers, cultivating crops like maize, millet, and sorghum. In the Shona, cattle are kept as a form of prestige, store of value or used to pay bride price. They are also a primary source of milk.
