Zobo is a bright red drink made out of Hibiscus leaves. Also called hibiscus tea, Zobo is a highly nutritious drink thanks to the combination of fruits used in its preparation. Research has shown that Zobo drink may help reduce menstrual pain, prevent constipation, enhance liver function and lower blood pressure. Zobo drink is tasty, refreshing and easy to make! The good thing is you can modify the drink to suit your taste

Here is a step-by-step guide on making a delicious zobo drink.

Ingredients:

2 cups of dried hibiscus petals (also known as Zobo leaves)

5 cups of water (or more)

1 big ripe pineapple

1 tablespoon of grated ginger

1-2 cloves (for extra spice)

1-2 tablespoons of orange zest (optional, for citrusy aroma)

Instructions:

Rinse the dried hibiscus petals thoroughly to remove any dirt. Place the hibiscus petals, grated ginger, cloves, and orange zest (if using) in a pot. Wash and peel your pineapple and cut into small slices.  Add 5 cups of water to the pot and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.

Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool down. Strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer into a clean bowl, separating the liquid from the hibiscus petals and other ingredients. While your zobo cools, blend pineapple and add the juice to the zobo.

Refrigerate the Zobo drink until chilled or serve over ice.

NOTE: For added sweetness you may add sugar or artificial flavor. If you do not like sugar, use blended dates for natural sweetness.
