Although, prevention is always better than correction, it may be inevitable to sometimes over salt your meal. Excessive salt in food can be unpleasant and unhealthy and the best way would be to pay attention to the salt content when cooking and try to add it gradually, tasting as you go, to avoid over salting in the first place. However, when it occurs you need some tips to help you reduce or remove excessive salt from your meals, which includes:

Balance with acid: Adding acidic ingredients like lemon juice, lime juice, or vinegar can help counteract the saltiness in a dish. The acidity will help to balance out the flavors and reduce the perception of salt.

Increase the portion/Add More Ingredients: If your recipe allows for it, you can increase the portion of the dish by adding more of the other ingredients (e.g., vegetables, meat, pasta). This will distribute the salt more evenly and reduce its impact on each serving. You can also consider adding ingredients that naturally absorb salt, such as potatoes, rice, or bread. These ingredients can help to absorb some of the saltiness while cooking.

Rinse or soak: For certain foods like canned beans or salted fish, rinsing them under cold water or soaking them for a while can help remove excess salt. Drain and rinse thoroughly before using them in your recipe.

Balance with sweetness: Adding a touch of sweetness, such as a small amount of sugar or honey, can help counteract the saltiness. Be cautious not to add too much sweetness, as it can alter the flavor profile of the dish.

Use herbs and spices: Enhance the flavors of your dish with herbs, spices, and other seasonings. By increasing the overall flavor profile, you can distract from the saltiness and create a more well-rounded taste.
