The Organized Crime Operations Unit of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) is investigating a shooting that occurred on Feb. 15, 2024, that left a man in critical condition.
A news release by the police stated that “At approximately 8:30 am on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, we responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Sage Meadows Green. Upon arrival, police located a man in his 40s suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The man was transported to hospital in critical condition.”
“Minutes later, police were called for reports of a vehicle fire in the nearby community of Evanston.” Police believe the two incidents are linked and that this vehicle was used in the shooting before being abandoned and set on fire in the 100 block of Evansglen Close N.W.
Investigators believe the shooting was targeted. However, investigations remain in early stages and investigators are also exploring possible connections to organized crime conflict in Calgary. “Investigators have begun reviewing CCTV and interviewing witnesses, and we continue to ask individuals who have yet to speak with police to come forward”, said the News Release.
“This shooting has the hallmarks of organized crime, and we’re looking to the public to help us identify who was responsible. If you have dashcam, CCTV or critical information that could help, we’re asking you to come forward”, said Staff Sergeant Mark Rahn of the Organized Crime Operations Unit.
CPS is asking anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from 100 block of Evansglen Close N.W. and 200 block of Sage Meadows Green N.W., between 8:20am to 9:15am on Thursday Feb. 15, 2024 to come forward.
