The stolen artefacts had been sold to museums and private dealers, one of them is Michael Steinhardt, one of the world’s leading collectors of ancient art. The relics were 58 piece, which was said to represent thousands of years of rich history.

One of the pieces include a marble head of the goddess Athena dated 200BC, worth an estimated $3million alone.

Earlier this year, several looted arts were also returned to Italy. Among them was an ancient Roman sculpture that almost ended up in the possession of Kim Kardashian. Italy’s cultural heritage protection has been working hard to recover stolen arts and has recovered artefacts worth millions of dollars so far.

The head of the DA’s antiquities trafficking unit promised there would be “many more seizures of artefacts”
