Rescuers are once again searching for survivors under rubbles after a new earthquake hit Turkey. A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck the Turkish Southern province of Hatay and northern Syria.
According to BBC, the buildings weakened by the first earthquake collapsed on Monday. Report says, Turkey’s disaster and emergency agency says the earthquake on Monday occurred at 20:04 local time (17.04 GMT), followed by several aftershocks.
Although the death toll is relatively low this time, hundreds of people are believed to be injured with more trapped in the rubble. The latest earthquake has left people more confused and scared as they are uncertain what will happen next.
People are reportedly in a state of fear and panic as ambulances and rescue teams tried to reach the most affected areas where building had collapsed. BBC said the earthquake in the city of Adana drove people to a volleyball center that was converted into a rescue center after the first earthquake.
Syrian activist Abdul Kafi al-Hamdo told Aljazeera that people have been avoiding weak building. “All the people here are not safe from anything”, he said. “They don’t trust anything even if their buildings are very strong.”
“People are very scared by the nights. We will have this problem for a long time.”
