MMA World Mourns the Death of Elias Theodorou

Elias Micheal Theodorou, a Canadian mixed martial artist died of cancer at age 34. The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), middleweight died on Sunday following a battle with stage 4 liver cancer.

Theodorou made his professional debut in 2011 and earned a UFC contract in 2014 by winning the ultimate fighter in 2014. He was known for being an advocate for the use of medicinal marijuana in combat sports and was the first fighter allowed to use medical cannabis.

Fighters and fans paid homage to the Ultimate fighter on their respective social media pages. Theodorou was a well-liked fighter and will be greatly missed. MMA reporter, Aaron Bronsteter, tweeted “sadly, a representative of Elias Theodorou has confirmed ealier reports that he has passed away at age 34. Theodorou was privately battling Stage 4 liver cancer and only told a select group of people of his diagnosis”.

Shannon Knapp, co-founder of Invicta FC, described Theodorou as “a beautiful soul”. She said the fighter “will be greatly missed, but never forgotten”.
