Metastatic breast cancer or advanced breast cancer is when breast cancer spreads from the breast to other parts of the body. It is also called “stage 4 breast cancer”. This is when the doctor says the cancer is “Metastasized”. The cancer often spreads to other organs like lungs, bones, brains and so on.
According to cancer.net, metastatic cancer can “develop when breast cancer cells break away from the primary tumor and enter the bloodstream or lymphatic system”. At the point of the spread, advance cancer treatments are used. There has been no discovered cure for metastatic breast cancer.
Metastatic breast cancer day started in 2009, when the House of Senate passed a law to recognize one day out of the breast cancer awareness month, October, as precisely devoted to metastatic cancer. This day October 13, 2022, was declared the Metastatic breast cancer awareness day.
The day was declared to support and show love to every metastatic breast cancer patient and to create awareness as well as demand research for treatments of metastatic breast cancer.
