British royal and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, said she is 43% Nigerian.
In the latest episode of her podcast, Archetypes, she expressed her desire to learn more about her roots. Discussing with American actress Issa Rae, Nigerian-American writer Ziwe Fumudoh and Professor Emily Bernards, she said “I just had my genealogy done a couple of years ago”.
When asked what the result revealed, she said “43% Nigerian”. Reacting, a guest asked “so what are you… Igbo, Yoruba, do we know?”
The Duchess answered “I’m gonna start digging into this, because anyone I’ve told, especially Nigerian women are just like, what! This is huge for our community”. To this, Ziwe answered jokingly “honestly you do like a Nigerian, you look like my aunty Uzo”. “Shout out to Uzo”, said Markle.
This is the first time the Royal would open up about anything concerning her ancestral roots to the public.
