Omeife is a 6-foot-tall female-looking humanoid robot developed by the Nigerian technology startup, Uniccon Group of companies.
Being the first of its kind in Africa, Omeife is programmed to be nearly human-like and multilingual. Omeife can speak pidgin, Yoruba, English, French, Arabic, Kiswahili, Hausa, Igbo and Afrikaans.
Interestingly, Omeife @iamomeife is powered by artificial intelligence algorithms with deep understanding of African culture and behavioral patterns. It is a flexible and helpful robot skilled with movement, navigation and ability to use computer vision capabilities.
On Friday December 2, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Inaugurated Omeife. According to Vanguard, The vice-president was represented by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, who in turn was represented by the Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa.
Speaking at the event, the CEO, Uniccon Group of Companies, Mr. Chucks Ekwueme, @chuks.ekwueme said “We are happy to play a part in helping businesses and people all over Africa to achieve their fullest potential by providing access to the most innovative technologies for the efficiency.”
“It identifies and tags humans through face and facial expressions, paying attention to a specific item when required. It identifies objects, knows their characteristics and also calculates positions and distances of objects it sees.”
