Loblaw and Gatik Launches Driverless Truck

Loblaw companies Ltd and Silicon Valley Start-up Gatik announced the launch of driverless trucks, first in Canada, to deliver select online grocery orders for Loblaw’s PC Express Service.

According to a press release, drivers will be available only when necessary. The new development allows Loblaw to have access to more routes and establish a safer and more viable supply chain.

The press release also revealed that Gatik and Loblaw have been testing the viability of the driverless trucks by transporting more than 150,000 autonomous deliveries, with 100% recorded safety, since January 2020.

“Being the first in Canada with this technology and deploying a fully driverless solution is exciting and illustrates our commitment to making grocery shopping better for customers”, said David Markwell, Loblaw Companies’ Chief Technology and Analytics Officer.
