Kanye West Continues to Experience Industry Backlash over Anti-Semitism

Anti-Semitic comments made by US rapper Ye, have led to several industry backlash against him.

The artist was dropped by his talent agency, fashion brand Balenciaga and his bank, in the wake of his comments.

A completed documentary about Kanye West, also known as Ye, has been shelved amid concern and industry backlash over his anti-Semitic comments.

In a statement, studio executives Modi Wiczyk, Asif Satchu and Scott Tenley said “this morning, after discussion with our partners, we made the decision not to proceed with any distribution for our recently completed documentary about Kanye West”. “We cannot support any content that amplifies his platform”, said the statement.

The 45 year-old rapper’s agency CAA has also dropped him in the wake of the comment. The fashion house Balenciaga also cut ties with Ye. Sportswear Company, Adidas has also put relationship with Ye “under review”.

The US banking firm, JP Morgan also cut ties with the rapper. The family of racial violence victim, Gorge Floyd, has filed a $250m lawsuit against the rapper following his comments made on the hip-hop podcast, Drink Champs. In the podcast, Ye said Floyd’s death was caused by hard drugs and not by the policeman.

Kim Kardashian, Ye’s ex-wife and reality star, commented on social media “Hate speech is never ok or excusable. I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end”. Other members of the Kardashian family have also condemned the comments made by West.
