The shooting took place today in School No 88 in Izhevsk, a city 960km east of Moscow in the Udmurtia region of Russia.
The gunman, identifiedas 34-year old Artem Kazantsev, is said to have been a former pupil at the school. He was reported to have killed himself afterwards. The regional governor Alexander Brechalov said the shooter had been registered with psychiatric facilty.
The authorities said eleven children and four adults have been killed, including two security guards and two teachers. Russia’s Investigative committee said 24 others, 22 of which are children, were also injured in the attack.
The school has been evacuated and the area around it cordoned off. Russia’s Investigative Committee is yet to establish the motive behind the shooting.
Russian President, Vladimir Puttin, condemned the attack as a “coldhearted terrorist attack”. Surgeons and psychologists have been sent to the scene and a criminal investigation has been launched.
