ALERT Seize $55M worth of Drugs in joint Investigation with DEA and RCMP

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), along with U.S Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Royal Canada Mounted Police (RCMP), seized $55 million worth of cocaine and methamphetamine in a joint investigation.

The joint investigation called “ Project Cobra”, persisted nearly three years and was concentrated on drug importation, drug trafficking and money laundering across U.S-Canadian border.

The operation reportedly captured 928 kilo of methamphetamine, 6 kilo of cocaine and 19 guns, says City News. The same report says “the officials searched 11 homes, businesses, storage locations and vehicles in Calgary, Bedford, Nova Scotia, Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario, and Leduc County, Alta, in December 2021”.

Authorities also “either seized or froze approximately $7 million worth of property, bank accounts, luxury vehicles, cash and homes”. Fifteen people have reportedly been charged for “money laundering, drug trafficking and organized crime-related offences”.

Police officers from the investigated provinces helped in the investigations and residents have been urged to report any suspected act of drug trafficking or anything related to it.
